This is a super duper quick post, but the timing of this Dusk Cosmetics Ancient Guardians collection of Dota 2 themed eyeshadows could not have been more fortuitous!
I’d actually forgotten that I’d ordered these loose mineral eyeshadows – such is the joy of being a grown adult, that one can drop a few hot coins onto gimmicky video game themed cosmetics and promptly forget about them – but they arrived yesterday, right in time for the peak of my week long Dota 2 competition watching spree. What better to match up with getting up at 3AM to watch The International semi-finals than a bit of sparkly eyeshadow? Well, that and a pot of coffee.
I picked out three of the nine Dota 2 themed ‘Ancient Guardians’ collections, settling for Chronosphere, Black Hole, and Quas Wex Exort.
- Chronosphere: named for Faceless Void‘s ultimate, Chronosphere is a soft violet with a touch of green shimmer. On my skin it pulls more of a pinky silver, and runs a little sheer. This shadow works best as either an overlay shadow to add lustre to a matte or flat base shadow, or foiled wet over an opaque pale base like a MAC Paint Pot or NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil.
- Black Hole: inspired by Enigma‘s world destroying vortex ultimate, Black Hole is a deep midnight blue with a touch of dark purple shimmer. It pulls extremely navy on my skin, turning to a rich royal blue. When I have enough free time to actually play mix master I’m going to combine this bad boy with some waterproof eyeliner mixing medium and create some liquid liner that’ll blow your socks off.
- Quas Wex Exort: Invoker‘s reagent spells are the inspiration for this somewhat all over the place colour. Is it mauve? Is it apricot? Is it coral? When applied it makes for what I’d loosely describe as an interesting not-neutral: enough sparkle to catch the light, but muted enough to merely emphasise my eyes.
Loose eyeshadows are generally not my jam, but I was so tickled by the whole conceit of Dota themed eyeshadows that I decided to risk it anyway. Be it a high end MAC Pigment or an Etsy hand blended pot, loose eyeshadows are just waaaaaaaaaay too messy. I feel like I dropped half of these pots just by opening them for the first time.
I would’ve happily paid a premium to get these in pressed pan form, but at some point I’ll perform a little kitchen magic and press these myself just so they’re more convenient to use.
And on that note, happy TI5! I’ll see you at 3AM, sparkly eyed and chugging coffee.
