I feel like it’s been at least three months since I last mentioned how much I like gel lipsticks. Three months too long, obviously! Let me just reiterate this: I love gel lipsticks. They’re have the best combination of things I like in a lipstick: an ultralight texture, cellophane colour that enhances my natural lip colour, application that doesn’t require fiddling around with lip brushes or liner.
So! It seemed like a no brainer to pounce on Urban Decay’s range of sheer gel lipsticks. I’m still a novice at all things Urban Decay so I don’t have a point of difference to compare these to the original Revolution lipstick formula, but I’ll muddle through and test out Urban Decay Sheer Streak Sheer Revolution lipstick on its own merits.
Sheer Streak is a warm pinky coral without any shimmer or sparkle. It’s a surprisingly muted colour – it’s fresh and uplifting, yes, but it’s not particularly bold or neon bright. Sometimes pink/coral is a one-way ticket to highlighter lips, but Sheer Streak has a restrained and understated quality that, to me anyway, makes it supremely wearable.
Sheer Streak is what I’d classify as a medium gel lipstick – medium opacity, yes, but also medium texture and medium shine. It has only light resistance when applied straight from the tube, with an easy glide that doesn’t tug or pull. I could use a lip brush to apply it to get a super sharp line, but honestly, it applies just fine straight from the tube. The shine is also a happy middle ground between natural matte and super glossy, with just enough shine to catch the light.
The wear time is around three hours, right on average for a gel lipstick. It wore off in the middle of my lips first but otherwise wore down evenly, mercifully without leaving a ring around my lipline. I had no issue with it feathering or blurring, but if I wanted to make sure that it was absolutely immovable then I’d prime first with a clear lipliner around the outside of my lipline.
Nice. Nice, nice. For a first exploration into Urban Decay’s lipstick line, I don’t think I could’ve found an easier starting point. I’m thinking of treating myself to Sheer Walk of Shame next, a sheer nude beige-pink. Or Sheer Liar. Or…
