So here’s the thing. I’m in the market for a rose gold waterproof eyeliner. Or possibly a bright copper waterproof eyeliner. I don’t know if you’ve ever looked for eyeliners in those colours, but assuming you haven’t, let me just say they’re impossible to find. Gold, sure. Bronze, no problem. Pinky gold or brilliant copper? Not likely.
After a bit of concerted internet searching I found a few mentions of Sephora Girl Talk Contour Eye Pencil, with people saying that it was a metallic rose gold. I picked it up from Sephora in Pitt St – no tester available, of course – and squinted at the pinky beige cap and thought, ‘somehow I doubt this is going to be rose gold.’
And it isn’t. Of course. Which, as always, proves the rule: a lot of people really don’t know what colours actually are. Take all internet comment advice with a large grain of salt!
Girl Talk is a pink beige pearl with generous amounts of soft silver glitter. It has a decent amount of shine but not a lot of colour, making it better used as an illuminator pencil.
I tend to use colours like this to add light underneath the lower lashline, or draw light to the inner corner of the eye. It also works well in tandem with pencils in neutral earth shades, layered underneath matte pencils to add a soft lustre without sacrificing intensity.
Girl Talk is on the sheerer side, and is best applied in several thin layers to build up opacity. It isn’t suitable for wear on the waterline due to its high glitter content.
