As I said on Sunday, I am horribly behind the times when it comes to new NARS releases. I was belabouring under the impression that the Spring colour collection was out this week, when it turns out it was last month. Yikes. Whoops. Etc. Let’s just pretend that I’m on the ball, right?
NARS St-Paul-de-Vence eyeshadow duo is the newest permanent addition to the NARS duo eyeshadow collection. It’s not the showiest colour combination in the line – it ain’t no Rated R or Mad Mad World – but it’s a simple neutral duo along the lines of Alhambra or All About Eve.
St-Paul-de-Vence is very wearable and natural, without veering in to flat brown territory. Which is nice, you know? A soft wash of frost enlivens the eye which, given that we’re talking about shades of brown here, is important to keep the eye area looking fresh and awake.

- NARS St-Paul-De-Vence (left) is a soft tangerine frost. It’s slightly sheer and the frost is relatively muted, making it an excellent fair skin friendly shadow. A wash of shadow over the lid gives just enough sparkle to catch the light, without being too blingy or bright. For deeper skintones I’d use it as a highlighting and illuminating shadow, especially on the inside corner of the eye and under the browbone. There’s no silver or white notes in the shadow, meaning that it won’t turn ashy or grey on deeper skin tones.
- NARS St-Paul-De-Vence (right) is a soft chestnut satin. I’d say that it’s more of a translucent shadow rather than a sheer shadow – it has colour, but it applies as more of a cellophane finish than a fully opaque shadow. I can’t see this shadow having much of an impact on darker skintones, but on fairer skin I’d use this as a sculpting shadow. Work it through the socket line, along the lower lashline, and generally add anywhere where I want to create the illusion of shadow or depth. It’s not a wham-bam impact eyeshadow, but it definitely has its place in helping the eye to look more sculpted without actually adding heavy colour.
