Oh my stars and garters. I’m normally fairly ambivalent about how my rinse-off face and body products – as long as it doesn’t smell like chemical death I don’t really care one way or another what bouquet it sports – but I’m making a big fuss over Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub: this body scrub smells delicious.
Is it redundant to say that it smells like breakfast? Probably. Let me rephrase: it smells like the best porridge you’ll ever have in your life. It smells like the finest warm oats with a dash of cream and a thick treacley spoonful of golden syrup, just like I used to eat when I was a wee tiny lass, desperate to warm up from the inside out after trailing my grandfather down to the milking shed in the pre-dawn chill. They say it’s the scent of maple syrup, of course, but I know better: the scent of golden syrup spooned straight from the tin stays with you forever.
It smells so good, my stars.
As with so many things, I’m a huge fusspot about body scrubs: I prefer salt or sugar grains instead of harsh ground nut shells, greasy oil-based scrubs are out, anything that leaves a sticky film or doesn’t rinse away easily is verboten. But! Breakfast Scrub is mercifully free of all of these. It’s a thick sugar scrub with just enough shea butter to hold it together, and it activates into a soft lather with just a dash of warm water. The sugar is dense enough to polish my skin without scratching or abrading it, which given that my skin can be a horrible reactive pig of a thing at times, is just what I’m after: I can use it from neck to knee without any irritation or reactions, no problem.
Mmmm, delicious. Just don’t eat it!
