Hola! Today I’ve got a quick makeup look for you using the brand new NARS China Seas eyeshadow duo from the NARS High Seize Spring ’14 colour collection. This addition to the NARS permanent eyeshadow collection consists of a somewhat challenging combination of pearlised plum shadow and a frosted turquoise with gold shimmer. I’ll post an in-depth review of China Seas eyeshadow duo tomorrow – including my thoughts on the interesting colour combination – so keep an eye out!
I used China Seas to create a striking bold plum eye that nails the 90s grunge eye trend to a tee. The bold slash of colour on the lid and smudged out line under the lower lashes creates a rock chic slept-in eye that gets better the longer I wear it – it looks great at 8pm and looks even better at midnight!
Products used: Too Faced Candlelight Shadow Insurance, MAC Shroom eyeshadow, NARS China Seas eyeshadow duo, Bobbi Brown Black Ink Long-Wear Gel eyeliner, Benefit They’re Real! mascara, Eyeko brow gel.
- I applied Shadow Insurance from lashline to brow with my fingertip and used a small narrow tipped paddle brush to sweep it along my lower lashes. Shroom eyeshadow was applied from crease to brow with a large fluffy brush to get a sheer wash of colour. Using a damp eyeshadow brush I patted the plum eyeshadow from China Seas onto my lid until it achieved a metallic foiled look, then used a blending brush to pull a very sheer wash of plum shadow slightly up and over my crease. I then used a pencil brush to smudge the same plum shadow along my lower lashline, allowing the shadow to blend down until it was soft and smudged out. I mixed a small dab of Shadow Insurance with the turquoise shadow from China Seas until it formed a paste, then used a fine eyeliner brush to press it into the inner corner of my eye.
- Using my painterly eyeliner technique I worked Black Ink gel liner into my upper lashline, focusing on the outer corner. I then applied the same gel liner between my upper lashes to visually thicken my lashline, and then wiped the brush until it was mostly clean and worked the last traces of liner along my lower lashline.
- Finally I finished by curling my lashes and applying a generous coat of They’re Real! mascara on my upper lashes and into the roots of my lower lashes, and set my brow with clear Eyeko brow gel.
