Covergirl Midnight Magic nail polish

Covergirl Midnight Magic nail polish is a metallic mesh polish with blue, green, silver, purple and golden fleck. It’s a difficult colour to pin down due to the riot of colours in the foil base, but overall it casts as a steely grey/green. It needed three thin coats for full coverage, and it dried relatively smooth with only a thin layer of top coat needed for a smooth finish.

On paper Midnight Magic looks like something I’d automatically gravitate towards: it’s a metallic mesh lacquer, it’s in the cool blue-ish silver-ish colour family, it’s interesting to look at in a post-cyborg future nail way. But – and there’s always a but – I just can’t seem to click with it. I’m guessing it’s because the colours within Midnight Magic are all over the place without a unifying theme, which is usually an issue I have with indie nail polishes. Just because a bit of glitter is great doesn’t mean that a nail polish needs the entire glitter collection dumped into it, and just because some mesh colours look nice together doesn’t mean that they’ll all look nice together. A little restraint, please.

I don’t have anything in my collection that’s a dupe or even remotely close to Midnight Magic, but it’s in the same style as Butter London Henley Regatta and Chanel Graphite.
