Brace yourself for rose overload. I have not just one, but four Lush rose products currently on rotation right now: Lush Rose Jam perfume, Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, Rose Jam Bubbleroon & Rose Queen Bath Ballistic. I’ve written about Rose Jam Bubbleroon and Rose Queen Bath Ballistic before, but there are two more rose products from Lush that are tickling my fancy at the mo’.
This is a bit of a cheat to post about this, I know. Rose Jam perfume was an online exclusive only available for two days in mid-May, and only landed in my hot little hands a couple of days ago. I know I normally have a policy of only writing about soon to be released or currently released products, but for once I’m gonna break that rule. I only found out about Rose Jam because I’d taken that time honoured exciting way of spending a Friday night – at home in my jammies, drinking diet Coke and refreshing Tumblr – and happened to check my email right as the fragrance sale went live.
Rose Jam is essentially Rose Jam Bubbleroon in perfume form, emulating that same rich and syrupy rosy scent. Normally I prefer masculine fragrances that are crisp and tangy but there’s just some ineffable something about rose that always draws me in. Rose Jam is pungent and rich to begin with but settles into a soft fragrance that sits close to the skin. For something so unctuously sweet it’s not overtly sugary or intense, which is honestly quite a trick of perfume making. It’s not a fragrance I’d wear every day, but it makes a nice change once or twice a week.
Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is a permanent addition to the Lush bodycare line though, easily accessible without having to be a dorklord checking your email at 11PM on a Friday night. This is an interesting product, pretty much unlike anything I’ve ever used before. It’s not quite a body moisturiser and not quite a shower cream like Lush’s Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie, but the lovechild of both – a creamy body moisturiser that you apply while in the shower or bath.
This vegan-friendly creamy rose goop has the texture of velvety smooth custard, and a little bit goes a long way: one decent scoop is enough to cover my arms, shoulders and décolletage. Once I’ve finished lathering up with my regular body wash and rinsed clean, I just slather on some Ro’s Argan onto my bod, give it a bit of a massage in and then gently rinse off the excess. Once I’m out of the shower I just towel off as usual and that’s it – no extra body moisturisers, no doing the ‘do I moisturise my face or my body first’ shuffle, no standing around in the nik on an icy cold winter’s morning. It’s not sticky or thick, and doesn’t leave a film on my skin.
Ro’s Argan is pretty much ideal for people like me who are both lazy and absent minded – having a pot of this balanced on top of the shower door means that I’m more inclined to remember it’s there and use it regularly, unlike body moisturiser which I can forget to use for, oh, weeks.
Good stuff, yo. I highly recommend it, and so does my dry, irritable skin.
