Face Of Australia Heart of Glass Glitterati nail polish is a super cute porcelain pink jelly polish studded with a confection of glitter in various shades of pink, purple and silver holo bars.
The glitter choice is straight up indie lacquer territory, where more is more: fine little pink and purple specks, clear holo fishscales, big hot pink squares, silver holo bars, raspberry hexagons and the occasional big pink heart. The small glitter specks and squares are light enough to stay mixed in the lacquer bottle, but the big glitter pieces are quite heavy and sink to the bottom of the bottle. I’d recommend storing this bottle upside down, and to shake the hell out of the bottle before you start polishing and in between coats.
I’ve used two thin coats of Heart Of Glass onto a clean base of clear base coat (China Glaze Calcium Gel Fortifier). The delicate pink jelly base is opaque enough to cover my nail bed, with a subtle hint of the white of my nail peeking through. If full coverage is super duper important then a single coat of a flat opaque nude polish as a base would be fine and dandy. The slight translucency allows the glitter pieces to show through, so the more coats you use, the more the jelly ‘sandwich’ effect will show up – some glitter pieces will be faded back in the lacquer, while some will be bright and shiny. It’s a neat little effect!
The glitter spreads reasonably smoothly across the nail, but I’d recommend using a pair of needle-tipped tweezers to move the big glitter pieces into place. The heart and square glitters have a slight curve to them, so either go large and in charge with lots of top coat to gloss over their edges, or take a couple of seconds with your tweezers to flip them over so they’re flush to your nail.
