A quick nail post to end the week sounds like my kinda jam, you dig? Mariah Carey for OPI Liquid Sand polish in Stay The Night is the second Liquid Sand polish I’ve tried after What Wizardry Is This? from the OPI Oz collection. Stay The Night is a black jelly polish with red microglitter and a gritty sandpaper textured finish. Application was straightforward with two thin coats needed for full colour and an evenly textured finish, although it would work just as well when applied over an opaque black or burgundy red base colour.

I’ve applied a very, very thin coat of top coat in the picture above, partially to seal the lacquer for a longer wear time, and also to bring out the lacquer colour itself. Without the top coat Stay The Night dried to a somewhat unappealing muddy reddish-greyish colour, so it definitely needs a little bit of help to look as attractive as possible.

I still can’t work out if I like the Liquid Sand gritty finish or if it’s a bit too gimmicky for me to appreciate. Hmm. If you’ve tried this unique lacquer finish before I’d love to hear your thoughts as to whether you liked it or not.

I fell in love with the texture & the dryness ironically lol. I felt like it looked like hot lava rocks molting over. It lasted a good solid 4 days before any tip wear & didn’t chip on me til day 6, & it was a very small chip. However, what I didn’t like was how I started seeing silver glitter in there after some wear, it made it look grayer than when on day 1 & not as cool looking.

I love the liquid sand look in some cases– the Oz one is awesome, but I’m getting a bit weirded out by the bigger glitter in this one. It doesn’t seem to dry into such an even texture. Does that come across on the nail too?
