Out on counters very soon is the new OPI Oz The Great and Powerful Soft Shades collection. This limited edition collection contains three sheer pastel soft shades, three glitters and one liquid sand polish. I have two of the lacquers for review today: Glints of Glinda and When Monkeys Fly!
Glints of Glinda is a sheer beige jelly-ish polish without any shimmer or sparkle. I’ve used two coats in these swatch photos which is enough to even out my nail bed and let the whites of my nails peek through. Glints of Glinda is more of a yellow-based beige so to keep your tips from looking yellowed I’d suggest maybe doing a quick and dirty French with some white polish first then applying Glints of Glinda over the top.
The formula of this polish was one of the nicest sheers I’ve ever used – it flowed smoothly and didn’t look streaky, even with just one coat. If all of OPI’s sheers are going to be in this formula from now on I’d be a very, very happy nail blogger.
When Monkeys Fly! is one of the three glitter polishes in the Oz The Great and Powerful collection. It has a mix of regular sized holo glitters, small translucent fishscale holos and large golden hexagon glitters. The effect on the nail is like a great mix of golden shine to compliment the golden themes in the movie, and the combination of fish scale holos and regular sized glitters gives some sparkle that’s more elegant and less blinged out.
The large golden pieces have quite a pronounced curve to them so I’d suggest using a pair of needle tipped tweezers to apply them flush to the nail; I tried to apply them using just the bottle brush and it didn’t work particularly well, so next time I’m going to use tweezers and get them sitting properly. In the shot above the pieces are sitting with their curved edges pointing out and despite three generous layers of top coat, they’re still pronounced enough to catch on things and lift up.
