Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow and Liner in ‘Nude’ (phew, what a mouthful) is a semi new-ish palette from Physician’s Formula. It features nine sheer shimmer eyeshadows in cool neutral shades. The shadows can be used in three eyeshadow line-colour-highlight sets, or mixed and matched for a custom eye design.

The shadows are all in a shimmer formula with a sheer finish. From left to right:

  1. Charcoal black shimmer
  2. Deep chocolate
  3. Pale taupe
  4. Cool medium brown
  5. True taupe
  6. Cool peach
  7. Medium brown
  8. Beige
  9. Icy lemon gold

The shadows are quite sheer when applied dry and without primer, so it’s more than worth your while to use a thin layer of primer and then apply with a damp brush in a patting motion. The shadows are also very cool, so I’d suggest adding a warm brown eyeliner or bringing in some warm golden highlights to prevent the cool tones from looking too tired or bruised looking.

I applied a wash of shade 09 to the browbone with a soft fluffy brush, then used a damp brush to apply 03 across my lid. With another fluffy brush I patted 02 into the outside corner of my eye, then finished with some liquid liner and mascara.

After wearing this for a few times I can safely say that Physician’s Formula Nude eye palette is much cooler in tone than Urban Decay’s Naked palette. Too Faced’s Nude eye palette has slightly more versatility in that it has finishes other than shimmer. That being said Physicians Formula’s palette wins on two big factors: it’s more widely available in Australia than Too Faced or Urban Decay, and its

  1. I really love this palette, but sometimes find that they don’t look great when I try to do a smokey eye with a few of the colours. They just don’t seem to blend nicely and evenly :(

    • Try the damp brush + patting trick to get the colour in place then blend over with a dry brush?
