Hey, so here’s the skinny on shaving your head. When you blast your bean back to a close crop, you lose the natural protection that your hair naturally gives your scalp. Suddenly your lil’ head is getting all sorts of UV exposure, its natural oils dry out, and its regular exfoliation process gets a bit wonked out. I’m saying that your scalp gets a little weird, that’s what I’m saying.
To keep your dome fresh and healthy, rub a little noncomedogenic moisturiser or a light oil into your crop on a regular basis. I know I’ve been harping on about NUXE’s Huile Prodigieuse oil (AU$24.95 for 50ml) a lot lately, but it’s a rad product that doesn’t dry sticky or funk up my long unshaved hair. A light chemical-based sunscreen is also a good idea if you’re out in the sun a lot. Also when you’re brushing your hair don’t forget to pass the brush over the shaved bits too, just to get get some blood a’flowin’ and give your scalp some exfoliation. I give my shaved dome a good rub with my Lady Jayne ecostyle bamboo brush (AU$17.99, Priceline), while The Chap favours his short bristled oval brush (£40.00, Kent Brush).
