ORLY Fired Up collection
Hand in my heart, I swear I always forget ORLY is available in Australia. I don’t come across it in my daily circuit around the city and as a result I plum forget it exists. On the plus side it means that when I do run across it, it’s like a happy little nail surprise.
I had one of those happy nail surprises at the recent Spa Beauty Expo when I turned a corner and saw the ORLY stand. Nail polish! Nail polish that I forgot existed! What a delight. I picked a few bits and pieces to tide me over for a few months, including two shades from the Fired Up collection.
ORLY Ignite
Ignite is a rich red jelly without any sparkles or shimmer. I used three thin coats to get the richest colour – one coat was a sheer bright cherry, two coats gave a colour virtually identical to OPI Vodka and Caviar. There’s a little extra colour pooled at the tips of my nails but in real life it’s not particularly noticeable.
ORLY Flare
Flare is described officially as being a ‘pale gold shimmer’, but to my eye it’s quite a rich golden shimmer with little golden holographic flecks. I used two coats for full coverage, and had no issues with brush marks or streaks.
ORLY Fired Up collection
Ignite and Flare maybe aren’t the most unique colours out there, but I nabbed these primarily because I’m feeling a bit of a hankering lately to start wearing vampy reds again, and also because I thought they’d make a nice festive manicure during the Christmas season. Picture it: a deep ruby nail with a gold French tip. I’m not normally a fan of funky French manicures, but I thought that combo would be super kawaii and not too over the top.

I agree – I think these would make a fantastic ‘Christmas nail’, and I usually loathe nail art of any kind. That red is such a classic.
