I have a theory. Not a very good one, mind you, and not one that would stand up to rigorous scientific methodology, but a theory nonetheless. My theory is that if I want a shimmery gloss or lipstick that doesn’t look like an 80s throwback or disco lips or just plain tacky frost-o-rama, I need to go straight to higher end brands. Maybe premium brands pay more to get higher quality pearl shimmers in their lip products. Maybe the mica shimmer more finely milled. Maybe it’s because The shimmer and pearl used in more prestige brands is more subtle than sparkling silver or bright gold. Maybe it’s because I’m delusional and will justify dropping a whopping $50 on a lip product in any way that I know how.

Whatever the reason may be, I’m really digging this Ultra Gloss in Lace Beige from Dior. The sparkle is super subtle and not at all blinged out. The gloss itself wears nicely on bare lips without splitting or looking patchy, something that’s a Big Deal for me. I rarely if ever wear lipstick or lipliner, so any gloss that can be popped onto bare lips without a second through is A-OK by me.

The gloss itself is quite light and not particularly sticky. The staying power reflects that with a wear time of no more than a couple of hours. Given the choice between a long wearing gloss that feels like glue and a lightweight gloss that needs reapplication, however, I’ll take the light gloss every single time.
