The Body Shop – Lily Cole for The Body Shop

Fresh out at The Body Shop this month is their collaboration with their brand new global brand advocate and professional pale gale Lily Cole, consisting of a capsule collection of cruelty-free cosmetics that – if not anything else – remind everyone that eco-friendly cosmetics needn’t be flat, brown, beige and boring.

I’ve been a little snowed under lately and haven’t had the chance to take the entire collection on a road-test, but I did take a quick moment to do a couple of quick eye looks to demonstrate the Shimmer Cubes and Violet liquid liner. In the top look I swept Tint It Pink from lashline to brow, applying it wet on the lid to get a strong foiled effect. In the second look I applied a sheer wash of Tint It Pink from crease to brow, and applied Live Lilac across the lid. I finished with Violet liquid liner on each look, although in the second look I blended it off into the lilac shadow to create a buffed out soft effect.

Lily Cole Shimmer Cubes 24 (AU$40.95 for 14g) is a quad palette of shimmery eyeshadows that can be popped out and swapped around with other Simmer Cube shadow sets. The colours are Tint It Pink (champagne), Live Lilac (pale purple shimmer), Go Violet (blackened violet) and Think Pink (rose shimmer). The shadows are appropriate to be used wet, so use a damp brush and pat them onto an eye primer to get the most vibrant colour payoff.

Ink Up Violet liquid liner (AU$25.95 for 3ml) is a true violet liner with just a touch of shimmer. The applicator itself is a dip felt-tip nib, so it’s super easy to control and not turn into a mess (I’m really not great with brush-tipped liners, ok?!). To be totally honest I wasn’t expecting great shakes from this liner because unless a liquid liner is waterproof or very water resistant, chances are it’s gonna make a break for freedom and end up on my cheeks. I’m proud to be wrong though, ’cause this liner wears like iron. I popped it on in the morning over a little sheer eyeshadow and primer and it was a little faded but still in place by six that evening. Impressive!

TL;DR version: I’m super impressed by the liquid liner to the extent that when I run out of my regular Illamasqua Precision Ink eyeliner I’ll probably replace it with one from The Body Shop. The shadows are pretty but not particularly unique, but a good starter set if you’re looking for shimmery yet wearable eyeshadows that can be worn wet or dry.
