Matchy-matchy is back at MAC.
MAC Cosmetics have put out a nifty little set of colour coordinated lipstick, lipglass and nail polish, so your lips can match your tips’n’toes! Each area of the world has received a slightly different set of matched sets, and here in the Asia Pacific we have a choice of Peachstock, Razzledazzler, Ravishing, Angel, Saint Germain, Morange and Impassioned.
As a devoted fan of all things orange, how could I go past Morange? MAC describe Morange as ‘loudmouth orange’ which is a description that’s both a) accurate and b) something I’d probably say. Without wanting to gild the lily description-wise, I’ll say that Morange is a clean orange creme with a slight red undertone.
I’ve had a few hits and misses with MAC nail polishes in the past (staining and watery formulas have been my main issue), but Morange nail lacquer (AU$22/10ml) is a hit. Two thin coats gave full coverage without any patches or streaking, and the product flowed smoothly without being too thin or watery. I was expecting some issues with staining given that this is such a pigment-dense colour, but I had no yellowing on my nails when I removed this polish a few days later. Huge tick!
There are two words for Morange Lipglass (AU$35/4.8g): full coverage. This is less a lipgloss and more an asskickin’ liquid lipstick, with only one swipe needed for super full coverage. I’m in the habit of comparing modern lipglasses to what they used to be like years upon years ago (I’m a MAC dinosaur!), so to me this is a medium-light gloss without a great deal of stickiness. I’ve been enjoying wearing this gloss by itself as a stain – I dab a little onto the flush of my lips and blend it out until it’s nothing more a gentle wash of colour. Wearable, bright but not overpowering, and it lasts for hours.
Morange lipstick (AU$36/3g) is a punchy bright orange without any shimmer or frost. Its super-saturated colour is bundled up in the Amplified Creme formula, giving a creamy finish without being sticky or greasy. A lipliner is a must for this lippie, particularly if you’re prone to getting some feathering around your lipline. I’m a fan of MAC’s Pro Longwear lipliner in What A Blast! for a matching super bright orange liner, but sadly that was limited edition. Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in 17C Bright Orange is also a perfect match, but sadly MUFE is a bit of a pain to get in Australia.
Orange lipstick: no one said it would be easy!
