I’m a big advocate of lazy. Lazy makeup, lazy skincare, lazy hair. not to be confused with ‘no effort’, mind you. Low effort, yes; no effort, never. Low effort is all about simplicity and going back to basics. In that spirit of keeping it simple, let me introduce you to the most basic moisturiser I’ve ever used.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is a simple, no fuss moisturiser for normal/dry skin types. The texture is light, almost a cream-gel, and it absorbs into my skin quickly without requiring a lot of rubbing, but doesn’t leave my skin feeling like I haven’t applied anything at all.
This is my low effort, super basic moisturiser. If I’m at home all day, I use this. When I know I’m going to be wearing a physically heavy sun cream and need to balance that weight with a lighter product, I use this. When I want something to tide my skin over between showering after work and applying rich facial oils before bed, I use this.
It’s that kind of no frills, no fuss moisturiser. I could make an appalling analogy between Ultra Facial Cream and a favoured pair of yoga pants – what more do you need when you’re relaxing in the comfort of your own home! – but even I think that may be pushing the limits a little.
That being said, it doesn’t quite have enough moisture bang for its buck to make it as my never-fail Real World moisturiser. Between my dry skin type and the fact that I frequently spend full days in hardcore air conditioning, it doesn’t quite last the whole day. If your skin is more towards the normal side of normal.dry, this may be one to add to your To Try list.
