Hey, remember MAC Slimshines? Meet their big city cousin.
MAC’s Sheen Supreme gloss lipsticks (is it a gloss? is it a lipstick? it’s a gel-form lipstick with a gloss finish!) are like a supercharged version of my much beloved, much missed Slimshines. The opacity has been dialled up, the formula improved and the colours edited to be a lot more on-trend.
After a quick browse around the Paddington MAC store where absolutely everything I wanted was out of stock, I dejectedly moped along to the new release stands and had a quick play with the Sheen Supreme displayer. Despite my vows to never buy another lip product until I manage to make a sizeable dent in my existing, world-consuming collection, I ended up taking Behave Yourself (a spunky cool pink with shimmer) and Gotta Dash! (creamy peach) home with me. I have zero willpower, I know.
Gotta Dash! is a creamy peach without any shimmer or pearls. The opacity on this lippie is a little higher than Behave Yourself, leaving me with the look of multitoned lips where there was a fine gradient of colour changing from my lipline through to the middle of my lip. A little experimentation has lead me to one conclusion: to get the full bang for your buck from Gotta Dash!, invest in either a good soft beige or apricot lipliner or go to town with a little Lip Erase.
It’s an adorbs colour that is just about perfect for a soft winter lip, but the extra effort needed to get this colour looking perfect means that I honestly won’t reach for it more than once in a blue moon. Le sigh.
Behave Yourself is a clean, sheer cool pink with fine microshimmer. I own a gajillion versions of this very colour. Page back through the gloss and lipstick tags here and you’ll start crashing into dupes very, very quickly.
The reason I own so many varieties of this colour is, as Apple fans are so quick to tell me, it just works. It’s a total no-brainer colour on my complexion, with my natural lip shade, with my everything. Pink without being baby pink, cool without being too pastel, shimmery without being a total disco lip, sheer without being totally pointless, check check and check.
Just a quick note on these lipsticks: if you had trouble wearing Slimshines (i.e. the gel texture played merry hell on your lips and caused drying or cracking), skip Sheen Supreme. It’ll have exactly the same effect on you, as it’s an unfortunate result people can experience with gel formula lipsticks from any brand.
Sheen Supreme lipsticks are AU$36 each and available from MAC counters and stores now.
