The moment I clip my nails down to little boyish nubs is, of course, the day my new OPI polishes arrive in the mail. Oh well!
Rising Star from OPI’s Burlesque holiday collection is a super warm bronzey gold foil. Even if you’re totally cackhanded like me it’s ridiculously forgiving to apply because it’s not a hot streaky mess, just a smooth reflective finish that looks like liquid metal on your nails.
Application is a smooth two coats – one coat is a sheer wash of gold, two coats gives an opaque finish with no bald spots or pulling. If you need to rock a third coat then go for it; the polish dries very thin so you’re not going to end up with gloopy thick polish either way.
I really don’t have anything similar in my collection to compare Rising Star to. China Glaze’s 5 Golden Rings is much paler and the finish much grittier, and Mecca Cosmetica’s Double Majesty is more of a true yellow gold.
I also have a bottle of Take The Stage to try tomorrow, so sit tight!

I love Rising Star…I have no idea why since I don’t think it is one of the more interesting polishes in the OPI collection, but I think it is a really interesting gold color. Do you have Let Me Entertain You and The Show Must Go On? I am really curious about those two as well.

I didn’t grab those two because after seeing swatches I thought they looked a little close to shades I already own, and I didn’t grab the glitters because frankly I’m a bit glittered out.
I’m going to drop by a beauty supply store tomorrow though, so I might completely change my mind after seeing them in real life!

I would LOVE to have your ‘little boyish nubs’ as my nails :D They look fantastic! I am setting aside time this long w/end (in melbourne anyway) to finally DO my nails. I have an OPI polish that’s been languishing in a bag since I bought it – oops. Not as colourful as Rising Star though….baby steps for me!

Go for it! Nail polish is the one thing I always try to keep nicely maintained – I just get over wearing makeup a lot of the time, but polish is something I can pop on and not worry about for a week. No matter how I look or what I’m wearing, nail polish always fits :D
